Curbside/Alley Collection Info
Please follow the following easy instructions to ensure efficient pick up of your garbage and recycling. If you follow this important information we will have no issues with picking up your garbage or recycling.

Placing your Tote:
Curbside:
Wheels to the Curb, always have the wheels of your tote facing the curb and point the arrows to the street. Please see the illustration below to determine where you need to place your tote.
Back Alley:
Wheels to the Fence, always have the wheels of your tote facing the houses. Please see below to determine where you need to place your tote. Remember, alley pick up is always from one side of the alley, please place your tote on the proper side of the alley.
  • Place totes out by 7am, and please return to storage location by 7pm of collection day.
  • Pull your cart, itís easier than pushing.
  • Tote Lids must be completely closed for proper pick-up.
  • Store your tote close to your house or garage, not on the curb or in the Alley.
  • Report Damages or vandalism to totes to the Town Office.
Garbage Day:
  1. Put your Garbage bags in your tote and close the lid
  2. Set your tote at curbside location by 7:00 am
  3. Ensure your tote is placed on level ground, away from other objects
  4. Once your tote has been emptied, return it to your house or garage.
Proper Placement:
Where you place your tote is important. Our truck has a mechanical arm to lift and empty carts. We need the appropriate space to minimize damage to property.
Totes are for household garbage, please bag all of your garbage and NEVER put any hazardous materials, dangerous goods, heavy materials or bio-waste in your cart.
EXTRA GARBAGE: Your new tote holds about the same as 3 aluminum garbage cans full. If you have extra waste, keep it in a secure location until your next collection day.

Acceptable Materials in Recycling Totes:
  • Loose Paper and Cardboard(Newspapers, Inserts and Flyers, TV guides, Boxboard, Envelopes, Junk Mail, Magazines, Paper Bags, Phone books, Pizza Boxes, Writing Paper and Corrugated Cardboard)
  • Aluminum (Clean Aluminum Foil and Clean Foil Containers)
  • Metal (All clean and dry food and beverage cans and tins)
  • Plastic (All rigid bottles, jugs and tubs any containers with recycling labelled with #1-#7)
  • Refundable Beverage Containers (All beverage containers)
Single Stream Recycling: WHAT CANíT I RECYCLE?


Non Acceptable Materials:
  • Hazardous Materials (Paint Cans, aerosols, lighters, car batteries, or oil)
  • Electronics (these items can be recycled properly at SARCAN)
  • Houseware items(drinking glasses, garden hoses, mirrors, light bulbs, ceramics, utensils and appliances)
  • Foam (Cups, food containers, egg cartons or packaging)
  • Glass
  • Plastic that is not a container (CD Cases, pens, straws, forks, spoons, knives)
  • Mixed Packaging (Deodorant sticks, toothpaste tubes, frozen juice containers, or anything made with more than one material)
  • Contaminated Containers (Nothing with food, chemical or liquid remnants)
  • Building Materials (Wood, drywall, tile, nails, concrete, bricks, vinyl siding, etc)
  • Scrap Metal (Metal items can be recycled for a refund at Swift Current Steel)
  • Plastic Bags (only accepted if multiple bags are bunched and placed inside of a bag)
Waste Information:
We collect and dispose of our waste at certified landfills around the South West, please note items not accepted in our bins or totes.

Landfill DOES NOT accept:
  1. Tires (recycle at local tire shops)
  2. Used oil
  3. Paint (SARCAN)
  4. Electronics (SARCAN)
  5. Asbestos
  6. Brake pots
  7. Hazardous waste
  8. Pesticide containers
  9. Pressure tanks (propane bottles, sprayfoam bottles, etc.)
  10. All Liquids including Sewage / waste water, fuels, oil including cooking oil, etc
  11. Dead animals including SRM
  12. ďHotĒ loads, burning barrels
  13. Grain bags (Recycle)
  14. Oilfield Liners (heavy plastic)
  15. Oilfield Black Plastic Pipeline pipe
